Anti-Warehouse and Development Campaign Update: Developer Resubmitted their Application

Dear Supporters,

We want to update you on the ongoing efforts to protect our community from the proposed warehouse and other development along Route 78 in Hunterdon County at 53 Frontage Road in Union Township. Despite the strong community opposition and concerns raised during the initial submission process, the developer has resubmitted their application against the will of the community.

This is a critical moment for our campaign. Here’s what we know:

  • The developer revised their proposal in an attempt to address some of the issues raised in the initial rejection or community feedback.
  • The developer is filing an additional application for development to force the community to either decide about the lesser of two evils and in an attempt to exhaust our opposition efforts.
  • Key concerns, such as environmental impact, increased traffic and accidents, noise, safety and the threat to the rural character of Hunterdon County, remain at the forefront of our opposition.
  • Resubmission could mean additional hearings and reviews, providing us another opportunity to make our voices heard.

We remain committed to advocating for responsible development that respects the character of our community and prioritizes the well-being of its residents.

Here’s how you can help:

  1. Stay Informed: Attend upcoming town meetings and review the new application once it's made available.
  2. Speak Out: Prepare to voice your concerns during public comment periods.
  3. Share: Spread the word about the campaign to friends, family, and neighbors who may not yet be involved.
  4. Volunteer: Join our efforts to organize, gather information, and coordinate responses.

Our collective action is the strongest tool we have to ensure that the needs of our community are prioritized over profit-driven projects. Together, we can stand up for Union Township's future.

UnionCAN is the Union Township Citizens Action Network to advance the interests of the residents of Union Township, in Hunterdon County.

Who CAN participate?

Union Township Residents and interested parties are welcome to participate.  Please sign up below on our contact page  to help organize, volunteer and please DONATE so we may hire our own attorneys and experts.  Please attend Planning Board/Board of Adjustments Meetings.

Let your voice be heard. Demand that Union Township adopts ordinances that although warehouses generate some economic activity including jobs for not necessary our town and ratables, it would be at the expense of the public good and would have a negative impact overall on the community.

Ordinances that recognize that any benefits from such facilities would be outweighed by the noise, truck traffic, air pollution, compromised safety and lower property values. Warehouses have been a hot topic at many Board Meetings in our surrounding neighborhoods as many residents vehemently oppose the construction of warehouses especially in or near heavily residential area, SCHOOLS and parks.

Residents have the  right to quiet enjoyment of life and property and to maintain the natural landscape of the community.  It should be the Township Committee’s objective to maintain a desirable community and to lead Union Township forward in a manner that is consistent with the vision of the community and in accordance with a Master Plan to supports that vision.

UnionCAN Warehouse Action

Our current action is to represent the interest and concerns of the residents and Union Township Community in regards to the impact the planned warehouse complex and other development would have on safety, quality of life, traffic, property values, pollution, noise and the environment on the community.
